"Come on, stop this train.
I want to get off and go home again.
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know i can't
But, honestly, won't someone stop this train?"
No. The train that John Mayer means in that song is not the train that we usually see in train station. He means 'life'. Don't you realize that life is like a train? It keeps moving in. And we can't stop the train or make it slower whenever we want.
In life, we start our new 'chapters', leaving the old one's behind, being hurt, happy, falling down, rising up again, lonely, busy, and in the middle of our 'train ride', we realize that we're moving too fast, like we're not ready for the challenge ahead and for... growing up. We want someone to stop this 'train', or going back to the previous 'destination'.
"So scared of getting older
I'm only good at being young"
Sometimes we wish we could hit the 'pause' button. Getting older is scary. What if our life in the future doesn't match up with our dreams and hopes? We don't know what will happen to us. All we know is a lot of changes will come with 'getting older'. And, for a moment, we just want to stay where we are now. Being young.
So, we are scared about the things that we don't know yet. Isn't that pathetic?
"Had a talk with my old man
said, 'Help me understand'.
He said, 'Turn 68, you'll renegotiate
don't stop this train
don't for a minute change the place you're in'."
But, we have to face it. Getting older is one of phases in life. When we're older, we'll realize that there are so much things we've learned and how much experiences we've got on the process of growing up. Beside, we're not the only one who face the 'getting older' phase. Everbody does. Include our parents. Like this song, I imagine that JM as the one who felt his life growing faster than he expected, and lost his purpose of life, then asked his father. So, don't quit. Enjoy the life we live. Be happy wherever we are, because maybe we're on the place where we belong. Also, don't forget to always pray and be thankful to God.
"Singing stop this train
I want to get off and go home again
I can't take the speed it's moving in
I know I can't
Cause now I'll see I'll never stop this train."
Here, the video of John Mayer when he sang 'Stop This Train' at LA. One of my favorite videos.
